Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The photographer and public relations position will be responsible for capturing and editing visual content for multiple platforms and collaborating with the Community and Media Relations Office professionals to offer photography solutions for events, studio photography, social media, marketing, and advertising campaigns.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Works closely with the Assistant Director of Public Relations and Social Media and the Community and Media Relations Director to ensure the college’s mission, slogan, branding consistency, and image, are seen in a positive way in all areas of media relations.
2. Assists the Community and Media Relations team in promoting positive and productive internal and external communication and college branding.
3. Covers events that involve the president of the institution and executive leadership team from a public relations, marketing, advertising, and social media perspective.
4. Produces photography and photo content using various methods, including printed,  and digital media.
5. Takes professional photographs in the studio and different locations of the college president, administration, faculty, students, and departments to ensure consistency with institutional branding.
6. Coordinates all photography requests from our internal and external stakeholders in a professional and timely fashion.
7. Gathers information, interviews people, and takes photographs for the production of the college’s internal newsletter and advertising material.
8. Recommends creative ideas to exceed expectations of goals and objectives for the department, division, and college as a whole.
9. Works with the Community and Media Relations Director and Assistant Director of Public Relations/Social Media on the development of marketing and public relations campaigns, recruitment programs, donor and alumni initiatives, special events, and/or programs that promote the institution.
10. Produces and creates news releases, media advisories, feature articles, tip sheets, talking points, PSAs, development materials and/or other written materials for distribution to the media and internal/external partners. Utilizes writing and editorial skills to prepare news releases and other information for the media.
11. Performs other duties that support the marketing, advertising, public relations, and media relations efforts of Laredo College and all of its programs.
12. Supports Social Media Specialist in updating and maintaining the social media accounts of the institution. Reports any type of suspicious social media activities such as comments, images, and direct messages to the direct supervisor.
13. Supports graphic designers and other staff with professional photography.
14. Must have proven expertise in various photography styles, including portrait, event, editorial, studio, lifestyle, and creative photography.
15. Takes photographs for publications, advertising purposes, and event coverage. Posts photographs and content into our social media accounts and website.
16. Offers support by uploading photographs and content to our website and social media platforms.
17. Offers support in creating short, engaging videos to promote the institution and programs to be used on the college website, TV channel, and YouTube channel.
18. Must be familiar with Associated Press Stylebook guidelines.
19. Supports graphic designers and the CMRO staff in the proofreading process of promotional material.
20. Develops and maintains professional working relationships with international, national, regional, and local news media partners.
21. Maintains a record of media and event coverage.
22. Provides photo content or related department information to internal and external constituents who contact Laredo College and the Community and Media Relations Office in a timely fashion.
23. Ensures timely and effective management and periodic auditing of multimedia archival system.
24. Must be flexible with work schedule.
25. Performs other duties as assigned to the Community and Media Relations Office and/or the Institutional Advancement Division in the efforts that promote the mission of Laredo College and its programs.
