Reporting to the Assistant Provost of Teaching and Learning, the Dean for Business and Social Science is responsible for providing administrative leadership and supervision for the academic disciplines of Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance and Banking, Kinesiology/Physical Education, Management, Marketing, Website Development, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Education, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Responsibilities for this position encompass budgeting, course and program scheduling, faculty and staff selection, orientation and evaluation of staff and faculty, curriculum and program development, assessment of student learning, and overall supervision of the division.

Develop an instructional schedule for the division for each semester and assign individual instructors to implement the schedule.

In collaboration with Human Resources and the Assistant Provost of Teaching and Learning, as appropriate, maintain staffing for the division, including the recommendation of full-time faculty and support staff for employment and the extension of offers of employment to adjunct faculty and part-time staff.

Provide direct supervision for full-time faculty and support staff within the division, facilitating professional development through the tenure process and annual staff appraisal system. In addition, collaborate with the Assistant Dean to provide indirect supervision for adjunct faculty in the division.

Coordinate the curriculum process for all instructional areas in the division, collaborating with full-time faculty members to review and evaluate curricula and to recommend curriculum revisions; and provide leadership for the development of new curricula in relevant discipline areas.

Use data-informed decision-making and provide leadership for grants, special projects, or initiatives that support innovative teaching practices and that advance equity in student success.

Provide leadership for the assessment of student learning for all instructional areas in the division, collaborating with full-time and adjunct faculty members as well as the Learning Outcomes, Curriculum and Program Development team to design assessment plans, evaluate course outcomes, collect data, and use results to enhance curriculum and instruction.

Develop, plan, and implement various Business and Social Science division events to support student success, and community engagement.

Develop partnerships in the college community to assist in program growth, expand program awareness, and increase program/discipline viability and health.

Prepare and monitor division budgets including the review and recommendation of staffing needs, oversight of grants, purchase and maintenance of equipment, and purchase of software.

Collaborate with full-time faculty, Admissions, and Marketing and Communications to support student recruitment and persistence for all instructional programs in the division.

Interact with students to resolve student complaints and provide program and course advisement, as needed.

Maintain contact with local employers, transfer institutions and appropriate community groups to ensure the relevance of programs and curricula.

Prepare and submit to the Assistant Provost of Teaching and Learning all required forms and reports for the division.

Serve as a member of the administrative team, participating in the Instructional Council, serving on college committees as requested, assuming responsibility for membership in a community service organization, and developing effective working relationships within the college to address issues that relate to both instruction and the overall mission of the college.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree required; master’s degree in one of the division subject areas preferred.

Minimum three years of experience in higher education at the administrative level required.

Three years of supervisory/leadership experience required.

Teaching experience in higher education preferred; teaching experience at the community college preferred.

Demonstrated experience with curriculum development and assessment of student learning required.
