Position Summary

 

Tentative Teaching Schedule (Beginning January 2025):
Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
- and/or -
Weekly Schedule: Monday - Friday - 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Responsible for teaching assigned Manicuring/Nail Technology courses. Adjunct instructor will be responsible for teaching assigned face-to-face courses on the MCC Main Campus. Duties will include developing, updating, and teaching in a classroom, online, and laboratory setting. Position will report to Program Director of Cosmetology and the Division Chair for Business, Technology, and Cosmetology.

This job posting is being used to capture a pool of qualified adjunct faculty candidates for the upcoming semester(s). Adjunct faculty are part-time, non-salaried faculty who are paid for each class taught and are hired on an as-needed basis. An adjunct job posting does not imply an open position exists at this time. The need for adjunct faculty changes from semester to semester and should be considered temporary in nature. Applications for an adjunct position will remain active for one (1) year and will be evaluated only when a specific need occurs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction for students in a physical instructional setting.
  • Instruct day, evening, and online sections as needed for the program and students.
  • Organize a semester course following department, institutional, and state guidelines.
  • Create course materials (course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, handouts, lectures, slides, assignments, rubrics, models, classroom schedule activities, group work).
  • Develop, prepare and grade assignments identified to evaluate student performance and based on student learning outcomes and competencies.
  • Determine a fair grading system.
  • Set up materials on Moodle (grade book, tests, lectures).
  • Set up policies compliant with department, institutional, and state regulations and requirements.
  • Hold student conferences as needed and required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs and/or accreditation requirements. Record attendance in Self-Service.
  • Contact students who are absent from class.
  • Complete FTE and progress reports as required.
  • Correspond with students, supervisor, and Chief Academic Officer and provide responses in a timely manner. Be accessible to supervisor and Chief Academic Officer by phone and email.
  • Keep up with grades and attendance on a weekly basis. Submit grade and attendance reports as required.
  • Organize and maintain a clean and efficient classroom and laboratory setting; model and instruct students on the importance of a clean and organized work environment.
  • Oversee inventory control and management.
  • Work with students registered with Disabilities Services.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in the career field of manicuring and nail technology and the NC Cosmetic Art Rules and Regulations
  • Complete all compulsory training in regards to FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety.
  • Respond to student issues professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the immediate supervisor.
  • Adhere to all division and campus policies and procedures.

 

Education/Experience Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid NC Cosmetology/Manicuring Teacher
  • Understanding of and experience working with NC Cosmetic Art Rules and Regulations
  • Professional experience working with manicures and pedicures in all nail services
  • Knowledge of current trends, research, and development in the field of nail technology
  • Knowledge and understanding of the pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations of safe work practices and procedures
  • The ability to work autonomously as needed to stay on task, complete duties, instruct a variety of students from an assortment of academic backgrounds within a classroom space, and communicate effectively with students ranging in age from 14 years old to 100 years old.

Preferred:
  • Ability to use a Learning Management Systems (LMS) to supplement and enhance instruction
  • Five years of documented and successful experience as a manicurist/nail technician
