Storeroom Receiver

Job Description

Position Summary

The Storeroom Receiver is responsible for inventory at dining halls, offices, and retail locations. The Storeroom Receiver handles the receiving of items in a warehouse or backroom of a store, and ensures that the shipments are inspected, sorted, and stored in dry storage or stocked on shelves as needed. They track inventory counts and check the items in inventory for damages, receiving temperatures, or discrepancies. The essential functions and responsibilities of the position may vary depending on the Johns Hopkins University location based on client requirements and business needs. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Receive incoming shipments of merchandise, checking delivery documents for accuracy.
  • Properly accounting for the location of incoming goods.
  • Inspect delivered items for damage, defects, and quantity discrepancies.
  • Verify the accuracy of shipments against purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Coordinate with vendors delivery personnel and store management to address any rejected or damaged items and arrange for returns or replacements.
  • Organize and store received merchandise in designated storage areas.
  • Communicate with store managers and other departments to coordinate the availability of merchandise for sale.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines while handling merchandise and operating equipment.
  • Assist with periodic inventory checks to maintain accurate stock records.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors and delivery personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of received merchandise, delivery schedules, and discrepancies.
  • Maintain the upkeep and cleanliness of storage areas, kitchen, refrigerators & freezers. Including sweeping and moping the floors in all storage area and walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Manages leftover foods correctly; cover, label, date, and accurately store according to John Hopkins University standards.
  • Maintains accurate rotation of food to assure top quality and freshness.
  • Handle record keeping as assigned be store manager.
  • Control inventory and inform procurement managers in case of low inventory levels.
  • Discard all expired items according to company policy
  • Perform stocking duties such as lifting, rotating products, ordering, blocking, dusting, and facing
  • Oversee daily price changes and manage POS as required
  • Ensures proper and timely setup, maintaining and stocking of work area with necessary supplies.
  • Perform general stocking duties daily including storing and stocking products in/on bins, pallets, shelves, racks, and refrigerators
  • Ensures security of company assets
  • Maintains excellent customer service and positive attitude towards guest, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
  • Coordinate retail space activities, dispose of trash and manage the cleanliness of the storeroom.
  • Receive merchandise that comes into the location and ensure that the merchandise is unloaded and stored according to established procedure.
  • Ensure proper rotation of all products using FIFO and regularly checking dates.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards (including backroom and shelves) and dispose of trash.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to use time keeping system to properly record time worked for payroll processing. 
  • Ability to follow instructions from multiple managers, chefs, and supervisors. 
  • Ability to work in a group/team and function efficiently. 
  • Ability to follow all unit safety requirements. 
  • Possess the ability to meet specific uniform standards for this position. 
  • Utilize all Personal Protective Equipment’s per guidelines. 
  • Wear cut-resistance gloves whenever using a sharp or potentially sharp tool or instrument. 

 

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • ServSafe and Allertrain certified or 
  • Obtain ServSafe and Allertrain certificates within the first 2 months of employment.

Authority:

This position does not directly supervise anyone but is responsible for working in a team and completing task in a group setting.

 

This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered “probationary” employees until completion of 90 calendar days of employment. These employees shall become members of the Bargaining Unit if this employment continues beyond four months. The university will notify the employees’ union. Bargaining Unit employees shall become eligible for benefits upon completion of their probationary period.

 

Starting Salary Range: $20.33 per hour
