Director of the Office of Financial Aid

Job Description

The Director of the Office of Financial Aid oversees the receipt, evaluation, and approval of requests for all financial aid programs. This role is responsible for establishing procedures, maintaining records of student transactions, and ensuring the efficient use of automated financial aid management systems. The Director also prepares, or supervises the preparation of, both required and ad hoc reports related to the office’s operations and ensures that the University’s use of funds complies with applicable state and federal regulations. The Director reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for the daily operations of the Financial Aid department
    • Provides planning, programming, operations, delivery of services, advice and counsel in areas related to Financial Aid
    • Supervises staff, including making recommendations for staffing, conducting, performance evaluations, addressing disciplinary matters, assigning work, etc.
    • Coordinates all facets of financial aid including loan and grant processing, student counseling, workstudy, and reporting requirements
    • Directs and implements student employment service programs and policies
    • Ensures department goals are met and supports University-wide goals
    • Interprets federal rules and regulations regarding financial aid
    • Assumes responsibility for implementing federal rules and regulations
    • Coordinates staff development and training
    • Formulates and monitors annual department budget
    • Accepts other duties as assigned

 


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with the Admissions Office
  • Ability to deal with diverse population
  • Managerial/supervisory skill
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 3-5 years’ experience as Director, Associate, or Assistant Director of a Financial Aid Office
  • Broad understanding of higher education issues
  • Experience with Banner or other systems software package
