Your primary responsibility will be to interpret engineering drawings or sketches to determine the correct welding sequence and operations required to meet or exceed quality requirements supported for R&D programs in accordance with APL quality initiatives. These programs vary from prototype R&D to fully configured AS9100 compliant programs requiring welds to pass X-ray and Die Penetrant inspections. - Set-up and operate GTAW and GMAW welding equipment with proper gas, electrode, filler wire, and machine settings.
- Organize, setup, and properly fixture weld components in assigned workstation in preparation of welding using proper
welding techniques to obtain proper weld size, minimize distortion and shrinkage while meeting all requirements. - Read and interpret blueprints with GD&T as required to complete proper assembly of hardware components.
- Perform visual verification on welds ensuring welds are free of visible defects.
- Remove and repair defects when necessary without introducing more artifacts.
- Review work packages for fabrication issues and costing errors.
- Communicate with shop leadership and customers as required to achieve end objectives.
- Monitor and record work duration and completion in work tracking system via written notes and emails.
- Work with engineers to produce and qualify welding procedures and test specimens.
- Perform hand finishing of welded assemblies; verify final product is complete per customer’s requirements.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- High School diploma and at least 8+ years of experience working in a prototype or R&D environment.
- Welding proficiency to achieve welds that consistently pass Dye Penetrant and x-ray tests.
Silver Soldering experience. - Highly motivated with positive interpersonal skills and able to work in a well in a team-oriented atmosphere.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ANSI Y-14.5.
- Previous experience and ability to pass certification tests in 6G positions in aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and Inconel.
- Ability to create an environment that is conducive for training and mentoring.
- Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

5 years of experience with X-Ray interpretation and repair of flight hardware.
Aerospace certified 2219 Class A/D17.1.
Prior experience with pipe welding procedures and techniques.
Experience with manual mills and lathes and other fabrication equipment.
Experience with Plastic Welding, Vacuum welding, and, Helium leak testing.
Special Working Conditions: Safety Shoes and glasses required. Overtime may be required to meet critical delivery
schedules.
