Duke Molecular Physiology Institute is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate under the supervision of Kim M. Huffman, MD, PhD. This position requires documented experience in skeletal muscle molecular analyses, both laboratory assays and small and large-scale (e.g. “omics”) data analyses.


 

Responsibility:

You will be involved in the Department's research activities as a Postdoctoral Associate. in the laboratory under the supervision of Kim M. Huffman, MD, PhD. Your work location will be with Kim Huffman’s research group in Carmichael Bay 51 or on the Center For Living Campus as needed. For the one-year term of this appointment, your activities will be:


 

Research Activities:

  • Research laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations to obtain data for research purposes including assays of skeletal muscle, plasma, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
  • Compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
  • Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments.
  • Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Your major responsibilities will be to:

Support the research projects as outlined above.

Assist with manuscript development.

Perform other related duties and special projects as requested.


 

Resources:

You will have access to the laboratory equipment and supplies necessary in the Huffman research group.


 

Min Degree Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.). Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.
Other Credential/Experiential Requirements: The incumbent must be a true post-doctoral fellow registered with the Post Doc Office and per the following requirements:

  • The term of this appointment is limited (5 years with a possible extension for an additional year)
  • The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, which may include teaching responsibilities.
  • The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full time academic or research career.
  • The appointment is not part of a clinical research training program unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is a primary purpose of the appointment.
  • The appointee works under the supervision of a scholar or a department at Duke University.
  • The appointee has the freedom and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.
