Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Professor Melinda Baldwin in the Department of History is hiring a Graduate Assistant to help with tasks related to her book on the development of peer review in the sciences. With funding from the Sloan Foundation, the Graduate RA will assist with the following tasks:
  • OCR scanning, tagging, and transcribing of archival scans
  • Editorial assistance, including confirming the accuracy of direct quotes and assisting with the formatting and proofreading of the footnotes and bibliography.
  • Possible archival trips to DC-area archives

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Enrolled as a graduate student at UMD.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style footnotes and bibliography format (will be confirmed with a short editing test).
  • Experience working with scanned archival documents.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro’s OCR function.
  • Some knowledge of the history of science after 1800 or US history after 1900.
